We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced Fire Alarm Technician to join our team. As a Fire Alarm Technician, you will be responsible for installing, inspecting, testing, and maintaining fire alarm systems in various settings. Your knowledge of fire alarm systems, troubleshooting skills, and commitment to safety will ensure the effective operation of fire protection systems.
Responsibilities:
- Installation and Configuration: Install and configure fire alarm systems according to specifications, design plans, and applicable codes and standards. Mount devices, run wiring, and connect control panels, detectors, notification appliances, and other components. Ensure proper functionality and integration of the system.
- System Testing and Inspection: Conduct thorough testing and inspection of fire alarm systems to verify their proper operation. Perform functional tests, sensitivity tests, and alarm tests to ensure compliance with regulations and manufacturer guidelines. Identify and resolve any issues or deficiencies.
- Preventive Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance tasks on fire alarm systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability. Clean detectors, inspect wiring and connections, replace batteries, and update system software as needed. Identify potential problems and address them proactively to prevent system failures.
- Troubleshooting and Repair: Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with fire alarm systems, including faulty devices, false alarms, and system malfunctions. Use diagnostic tools and equipment to pinpoint the root cause of problems. Repair or replace defective components and ensure system functionality.
- Code Compliance: Stay updated on relevant fire codes, regulations, and industry standards. Ensure that all fire alarm installations and maintenance activities comply with local, state, and national codes. Keep accurate records of inspections, testing, and maintenance activities as required.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed documentation of all fire alarm system installations, inspections, tests, and repairs. Complete service reports, work orders, and other required documentation. Provide clear and concise reports to clients, supervisors, and regulatory authorities as necessary.
- Customer Service: Interact professionally and courteously with clients, addressing their questions, concerns, and requests. Provide guidance and training to clients on fire alarm system operation and emergency procedures. Build strong relationships based on trust and reliability.
- Safety Practices: Adhere to strict safety practices and protocols while working with fire alarm systems. Follow all safety guidelines and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Ensure compliance with company safety policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent. Additional certifications or vocational training in fire alarm systems is preferred.
- Proven experience as a Fire Alarm Technician, preferably in commercial or industrial settings.
- In-depth knowledge of fire alarm systems, components, and their installation requirements.
- Familiarity with fire codes, regulations, and standards, such as NFPA 72 and local building codes.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in using testing and diagnostic equipment for fire alarm systems.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical manuals.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently.
- Effective communication and customer service skills.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
